Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers

(Confucius Institute) Scholarship 2020

 Changsha University of Science & Technology

In the development of more than 60 years, Changsha University of Science & Technology (CSUST) distinguishes itself as an engineering-centered multidisciplinary university, integrating engineering, science, management, economics, philosophy, liberal arts and law, with a stronghold in undergraduate education and a capacity of post-doctoral science and research workstation, conferment of doctoral degrees and  master degree. CSUST sticks to the opening policy in its education and has widely explored international cooperation and exchange. Designated by Ministry of Education, and the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), CSUST is one of the host institutions of international students funded by Chinese Government Scholarship and Confucius Institute Scholarship. CSUST has three Confucius Institutes jointly operating with University of Montenegro, University of Liberia, and University Malaysia Sabah.

Changsha is national famous landscape island city, happiness city, the entertainment city, famous historic and cultural city, international green city, UNESCO city of media arts. CSUST campus located at the center position of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city of mergence, and it’s one of the most beautiful campus in China.

Based on the requirements and regulations of Confucius Institute Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as Hanban), CSUST has set the application and admission process.

ELIGIBILITY

All applicants shall be:

a) non-Chinese citizens;

b) in good physical and mental condition, with good academic performance and conduct;

c) committed to the teaching and international promotion of the Chinese language;

d) between the ages of 16 and 35 as of September 1st, 2020.

Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall be over 18 and not be over 25.

 

SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS

A. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study 

The program commences in September 2020, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

i. TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

ii. Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

iii. Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

B. Scholarship for One-Semester Study

The program commences either in September 2020 or March 2021, and provides scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible

i. TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required

ii. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture

An HSK test score is required. Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score

C. Scholarship for Four-Week Study

The program commences either in July or December 2020, and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible

i. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture

An HSK test score is required.

ii. Chinese Language plus Home-Stay Experience in a Chinese Family

An HSK test score is required. The program is organized and applied for by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group. Prior to the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made in consultation with host institutions.

iii. Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes

An HSK test score is required. The program is organized and applied for by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group.

Scholarship Coverage

The Confucius Institute Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition, accommodation fees, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded),and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. The standard of living allowance: One-Academic-Year Study, One-Semester Study: RMB2,500 per month.

Cooperative Scholarship Program

Changsha University Science & Technology cooperated with Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) to establish The Confucius Institute Scholarship of Changsha University Science & Technology. On the basis of the original enrollment, we will increase the scholarship number by 30, which includes 10 of One-Academic-Year Study, 20 undergraduate “Chinese + Food Engineering” lectured in Chinese, with four-year study duration. Students who accomplish the undergraduate programs of Chinese Language and Literature, and Food Science and Engineering stipulated by the training plan with qualified standings will be allowed to graduate and be conferred the Bachelor’s degree of Arts and Engineering. CSUST welcomes students who are committed to the field of Food Science and Engineering to apply for the scholarship. The enrollment method, qualifications and scholarship coverage are the same as the original Confucius Institute scholarship program.

Application Procedures

STEP1. Log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn) to register.

STEP2. Search for the accepted institutions. (The code of Changsha University Science & Technology :10536)

STEP3. Upload application materials as required.

STEP4. Track the application process, if the material is not standardized, you need to resubmit.

STEP5. Print the scholarship certificate online.

STEP6. Scholarship winners must pay attention to their email inbox and go through the formalities of studying in China as guided.

Note: Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2020 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” must log onto the scholarship website and submit documents to CSUST upon presentation of their CIS certificates. For inquiry, please contact CSUST.

Application Materials List

1. A scanned copy of the passport photo page.

2. A scanned copy of the score reports of HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

3. A recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions.

4. undergraduate student applicants shall provide a certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation), an official transcript, photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and certificate of Non-criminal record.

5. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall submit an employment verification letter and a reference letter issued by the employers.

6. Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.
