Dr. Zufen Wang, a tenure-track assistant professor in architectural engineering at Tennessee State University (TSU), boasts a remarkable academic journey, holding a doctorate from the University of Miami in 2022, a master's degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2018, and a bachelor's degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2016. Dr. Wang's research endeavors are firmly rooted in the pursuit of innovative solutions aimed at enhancing building energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions while providing valuable grid services. Her research domain encompasses three primary areas of expertise: (1) energy models and virtual flow meters for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) motor-fan/pump systems, facilitating precise control and efficiency improvements. (2) modeling, control, and optimization of building energy systems, contributing to the advancement of sustainable and efficient architectural practices. (3) grid-interactive efficient buildings, a critical facet of modern construction that integrates buildings seamlessly with the electrical grid. Dr. Wang's dedication to her field has borne fruit in the form of research grants from institutions including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), and Department of Energy (DOE). These grants support her pioneering work, which spans diverse topics, including integrating data science into building engineering, optimizing HVAC load management, enhancing grid-interactive efficiency, building resilience, and addressing refrigerant leakage in residential heat pumps.
